Forensic Friday at the MD Science Center (Baltimore)
Crime Lab investigators, Federal agents, and local and state police will be on hand demonstrating the latest in technologies that help them do their job. Stationed throughout the building, and in classroom and lab spaces, these special guests will use hands-on interactives and live demonstrations.

Build Free Disaster Prevention Kits (Baltimore)
The Allstate Foundation and Points of Light are bringing their 14-city disaster preparation tour and education campaign to Baltimore. Citizens will have the opportunity to build free disaster preparation kits at Summer Socials in West Shore Park. 5 PM to 9 PM 443-326-3444


Fridays After 5 MD Science Center (Baltimore)

Frederick Clustered Spires High Wheel Race (Frederick)
Come watch America’s only High-Wheel bike race in historic downtown Frederick - a unique 1-hour race featuring riders of antique or replica high wheel bicycles that were popular in the 19th century. Event includes an antique bicycle display. Free and fun for all ages. Sat 3:30-5pm.

Chesapeake Paddlefest (Cambridge)
The inaugural Chesapeake Paddlefest is presented by Rommel's Ace and Rommel Outdoors to benefit Special Olympics Maryland. The event will be held at the Dorchester County Visitor's Center at Sailwinds Park in Cambridge, MD. The Chesapeake Paddlefest is a fun event for all ages and skill levels featuring 4 mile, 2 mile and 1/2 mile races for kayaks, canoes and stand up paddleboards!

This week is the 2014 Back to School TAX-FREE Week of Shopping

The second Sunday of August to the following Saturday is designated as Shop Maryland tax-free Week each year. That means qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the state sales tax. Accessory items are not included. The Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week for 2014 is Sunday, August 10 - Saturday, August 16.
