Shaped by chainsaw and chisel from massive sections of tree trunks, Emilie Brzezinski’s towering wood sculptures have an appeal that is both lumbering and graceful. On Tuesday, the Kreeger Museum will open “The Lure of the Forest,” a solo exhibition dedicated to the work of the Northern Virginia artist, whose sculptures have been shown around the world.

Sankofa Dance Theatre of Baltimore presents a joyous program celebrating heritage, family and community. The symbols of Kwanzaa are enhanced with African music, traditional tales, dance and drumming. “Sankofa” means learning from the past to build for the future.
